So...what would the difference between this and agoraphobia be? If they're not living at home.

I think linking you articles would be more helpful than me trying to explain it myself.

This is a decent one which does explicitly go into why hikkikomori are different from other social phobias. There's a lot of things about it that's directly linked to how Japanese society functions:
