They are unhappy that tumblr 'stole' everyone away from LJ. Honestly it was bound to happen the way social media changes. If it wasn't tumblr it was going to be something else eventually.

I think that's an oversimplification.

I think that a lot of the drama taking place in LJ was instrumental in killing the more discussion-based fandom dialog, and there was a subsequent fragmentation, with some people moving towards Tumblr, some trying to recreate LJ on Dreamwidth, and I forget the other platforms probably because they flamed out.

I don't think Tumblr is the cause of the demise of 'fandom as it was', but I do think that as one of the current main fannish platforms, it's a lightning rod for discontent for 'fandom as it is now'.

lol this is exactly it

livejournal/dreamwidth users have a huge chip on their shoulder about tumblr being the new/younger hangout for fandom, and anything tumblr does is resented and attacked. and yes, many things tumblr users do are ridiculous, but when you've got outright racist and sexist things said here on FS to be "anti-SJW" you've gone too far in the other direction.

So... you think people change their political beliefs and stance on human rights based on suppressed jealousy over choice of social media platform?

I'm not saying that's not plausible, but I don't think it's what's going on.

i do agree (with the thing about anti-SJW shit being pretty crazy in its own right) but what can you do, I guess, other than tell people to knock it off
