You can't ship people just because they're cousins? It's not actually incest. A lot of things have cousins marry each other in canon.

To be fair, I can't ship cousins, really. I mean, I know it happens real life, too, but I don't like it sip-wise.

Depends on the cultural/historical/local norms.

I would definitely avoid doing my cousins because of the incest taboo (to me).

Plus, reading about Charles Darwin's family's hereditary illness troubles with all the cousin inbreeding... jeez, sickness everywhere. I think the man himself stated this was all making his line an evolutionary dead end.

Some people can't. Plus, it's an offshoot of the standard argument about mistaking any closeness for romantic interest. In this case, they have a reason for the closeness of their relationship other than romance: they're cousins who spend a lot of time together.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-14 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
are they first cousins, or more distant cousins

First cousins, although she has inherited an alien side from their grandmother that he has not (insert my usual rant about that stupid retcon here) and as such could be held to be significantly different biologically from Ben. Plus this particular species of alien has no DNA (insert my usual rant about how stupid that retcon is here) and could, at any time, essentially dump her meat suit and thus have no genetic relationship whatsoever.

Nah. He wants her to look like the Gwen he knows when he's inside her.

And so does she.

In a historical/global context, cousins NOT marrying is what's weird.

Provincial, aren't we?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-15 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
don't you have a blood relative to fuck?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-15 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, honey.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-15 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, look, it's a silly American who thinks his culture is superior.

Wrong.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-14 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
At one time I would have agreed with you until two of my cousins began sleeping together, living together, and recently got denied for a marriage license in Vegas. It's an open secret in our family but to me it's just wrong.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-14 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Dammit, this was meant for the first comment.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-15 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I know cousin marrying is/was the norm throughout history, but it just makes me feel icky. We no longer live in villages without modern transport elsewhere, there's just no excuse.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-14 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I ship them, hard. I only feel weird about it because I've barely seen the cartoons.

[personal profile] thezmage 2015-07-14 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Personally, that looked pretty spot on like I do trying to make conversation to people I barely know, to me. Which was essentially what that scene was.
