Firefox and Flash

[personal profile] philstar22 2015-07-14 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Did anyone else notice that Firefox is now blocking flash? I think, personally, that it is ridiculous. Flash is a horrible program, but it is still used by many websites. As long as that is true it is stupid for Mozilla to block something something so essential to internet use. Even CNN and other news sites use it.

It is because the current Flash version has a shit-ton of security vulnerabilities. They are blocking it to protect you.

I assume once Flash gets their shit together, they will unblock it.

Well, yes, it does. But it is also still widely used by many websites. So it should be my choice whether or not to accept the risk.

It still is. You choose to accept the risk when you unblock it.

The way the site I do bar review on works, it seems to not allow the unblocking though. I haven't been able to get it to work all day, so I had to switch browsers.

Er. It's fixed. They fixed it within 24 hours.

I had to open Safari just to watch my bar review videos so it has been annoying me too. My computer hates having 2 browsers open, and I hate Safari.

Do you mean Adobe Flash? Mine's been doing that for days, driving me fucking nuts. I even dl'ed the new version *twice*, and nothing. So i finally deleted all Flash from my hd, did a reboot, dl'ed the newest version and finally, it's stopped doing it.

You need to update your Adobe Flash. There were some major insecurities with the last version of Adobe. Adobe is the one who had Firefox and Chrome (or whatever other sites) block Adobe Flash. Update it and it should work. The new update fixed the issues.
