more specifically, the idea that the water shortage could be wholly ameliorated by stopping watering lawns and golf courses is almost certainly just wrong; there's strong evidence to suggest that the California agricultural sector's water practices are deeply wasteful; and if ensuring high food production is a progressive end goal, so is ensuring that people in cities have enough water to drink and wash themselves, and ensuring that we don't totally destroy the entire ecosystem of California - there are basically no endpoints in this equation that *aren't* progressive values on some level
