I've been reading this for how long?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-16 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I just noticed that the longest-running fanfic series that I'm still reading has very soon been running for six years and it has been regularly updated during this time.

Can anyone top this?

My record of waiting for a WIP to be finished is 10 years.

I'm still waiting for Mirabellawotr's Shadow of His Wings for eight years and counting, too.

A fic I was reading once went ten years without updating and then uploaded five chapters in the span of a month and finished the story. It was a fairly satisfying ending too.

Is that a Tokyo Babylon fic?

Nope! It was a Harry Potter fic. It may have been more than 10 years in between updates, I'm not entirely sure now.

You have struck fic gold. These days I only tend to read WIPs if the last update was relatively recently just because that gives me a bit of hope.

Austraeoh has only been running for three years, but it updates daily. The first book reached 200,000 words, each subsequent book is longer, and there are apparently going to be twelve of these things. (I only read the first book, so I can't vouch for whether they maintain the same level of quality throughout. The readers seem like the same kind of cheerful elitist fanatics who still read Homestuck and play Dwarf Fortress.)

The Tokyo Babylon fanfic Sakura and Snow went on from 1996 to 2009, so that updated for 13 years. I also know another Tokyo Babylon fic (Nukume Dori) has been going on for 10+ years now, and is still updating. So there's those.

I am embarrassed to admit that I still check back to Mirror of Maybe on the off-chance something's happened with it at least once a year... :/
