I think it also has to do with the way black people get shat on so hard for every crime a white person can practically skedaddle away from.

I'm not surprised she defended Cosby if that was the underlying reason.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-17 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
DA. Eh, she's defended horrible people before who were not black and she just in general has a lot of offensive views on things.

I would understand that justification if it was someone other then Whoopi but she in general is a mess.

I was gonna say, isn't she also a Polanski defender? Or do we let that one go because he's a holocaust survivor?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-17 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
I think the Tumblerinas let it go because his wife was murdered by Manson's followers.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-17 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
How does that justify him being a horrible person?

It doesn't, especially because Polanski was a shit husband to Sharon. Cheated on her constantly.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-17 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh, really? Everytime I see him mentioned on my dash someone will pipe in with how horrible he is.

You know what they'd always, ALWAYS do before they lynched a black guy back in the old days? They'd accuse him of rape. Those lynch mobs you see in old photos are smiling because they've convinced themselves that they're serving justice, that they have taken a vile, disgusting, inhuman rapist off the streets. I'm sure you know the feeling.

Of course, back then, "rape" could mean anything involving a white woman, including shaking her hand. But the principle remains for those who know their history.

That's all very true and very sad but it's not at all what happened with Cosby. Even though Cosby is black he was a male celebrity in the 70s/80s and back then there was an extremely horrible culture of male celebrities drugging and raping women in a very open way (it still happens these days but it's not as blatant as it was back then.)

Reading about how women were used in the entertainment industry is extremely disturbing. There are cases where someone was literally drugged up in a room full of people and no one helped them and no one said anything afterwards. With that kind environment I'm not surprised Cosby got away with it for so long.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-17 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not saying that's what happened with Cosby, I'm saying that the black community has very old, very good reasons to want proof for rape allegations. And wanting proof is not some kind of moral crime.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-17 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
I understand that but I really don't think it's relevant to Cosby or Whoopi at all. I think Whoopi, if anything, was acting more out of self protection for her career and not wanting to burn bridges.

Wanting proof is not a moral crime but the narrative that anyone was out to lynch a black man is just not a valid criticism in this case. Cosby had money and power and he was in a much more powerful position then those women he (allegedly) took advantage of.

There have been rumors about Cosby for YEARS as well, years before the public had caught on. Many people in Hollywood just tend to turn a blind eye to what goes on there, and I wouldn't be surprised if Whoopi is that type (from some of the other things she's said, I really think she is.)

He admitted in 2005 that he acquired Qualuudes in order to drug women for sex.

The fine print

The 0 is based on 10 or fewer cases

There are also a sizable number of "offender race not known" incidents

Nice try with your "lololololol black people R ALL CRIMINALZ HUR DURRR" crap.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-17 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
That's not at all relevant here, you jackass.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-17 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
It's EXTREMELY relevant. Your contempt for historical context does you no credit.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-17 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Who, precisely, in this instance is trying to lynch Bill Cosby

(Anonymous) 2015-07-17 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
White people getting away with crimes doesn't excuse pretending that Cosby didn't do what several dozen victims said he did, though.
