Honestly? I don't know. I suspect I was the first person to notice anything, given how our apartments are set up; I only saw it because I was walking up from the parking lot, and I saw the smoke curling up from the backside of the complex. I thought maybe someone on the other side was just having a barbecue, but when I ran around to that side, there was smoke pouring out of the windows, and that's when other people joined me. (I called up to someone on my side of the complex, who was in their patio, to see if they knew what might be going on, which was why they did.)

Ended up calling 911, which was terrifying, because I've never done that before, and I'll I could think of was "what if I'm overreacting, and it's just something to do with their kitchen" which was probably a stupid thought, but that's all I could think at the time, you know? |D

IDK how to feel, honestly? Like, on one hand, everything went well, my apartment stopped smelling like smoke after about 20 minutes or so of airing it out (it apparently wasn't a very big fire), and I managed to get my cat out safely.

On the other hand, this is the second time the apartment next to mine has caught fire, and while once is a coincidence... |D

I'm glad everything's okay for you and nothing was damaged but that does seem unusual. It's the same apartment with the same renters that has caught fire twice?

Personally, I'd be pretty freaked out calling 911 too because it's not yours but I'm glad everything is okay and that your cat is fine as well.

That's the thing, yes on the same apartment, but I don't know if it's the same renters or not; I'll admit, I don't know them very well, and the last time this happened, it was while my brothers lived in this apartment. (I moved into theirs at the beginning of July, they're moving out, but I used to live right underneath them, so I know my old neighbors, but not my brothers'!)

Thank you! He was pretty freaked out by the fire alarm going off (and by being shoved in his travel case; he hates it!) but when we were allowed back in, he went back to normal behavior pretty quickly, so I think he's fine. ^_^ (+ he's eating normally, so.)

Just curious, I never knew my neighbors very well either in the apartment building.

Basically your cat is being a cat, once he realized everything was fine, he went back to being fine.

Yeah, I mean, I know my across-the-way roommates, but only vaguely, because it turned out my old roommate knew one of them, but other than that... Nope. |D

Yep! I was worried about the smell/sound scarring him longer, but I'm glad that wasn't the case. ^_^
