Re: Writing courses

Depends on the course, the professor, the classmates, and what you want to get out of it.

I didn't love the college creative writing course I took. It kind of was that bad stereotype - pretentious professor with opinions, and peer review from people trying to be pretentious and not knowing anything about writing. Okay, chances are I was a little pretentious too, but nonetheless, the atmosphere didn't work.

But it DID force me to write, and some of the feedback was useful. It was fun presenting work, and being then forced to take a step back and think critically about your stuff, then tweak once or twice, and then finally have a few finished products that even now I'm pretty proud of.

So if nothing else, you'll be writing, you'll be talking about writing, you'll hopefully even get excited about writing. If you're lucky, you'll get some feedback, and maybe even develop some great new skills.
