A gay man who tried to buy time with a willing and fully consenting human. Equating consensual sex-workers with slaves is demeaning. I say this with full awareness that "Ryan" is also a massive asshole for committing blackmail. I can't wait to see him outed when he goes to trial.

If the LGBT movement hadn't outed gays, then things would be a whole lot worse for the LGBT folks. Not forgetting, it is only outing if you are ashamed of it in the first place.

People have the right to identify how they want and to choose who they share their identity with. Taking that choice away from someone is disrespectful and selfish.

Maybe, but they know their history. Back in the 1970s and 1980s purposeful outing was a tool used by the LGBT lobby. It was controversial because of the invasiveness,but it did arguably have a greater positive for the whole community even though it had negatives for the individual. The basic philosophy behind it was to find someone who was closeted but had good PR or a powerful social position, out them, and then use the media storm to both increase awareness of LGBT issues and to make people aware that being LGBT was not confined to sexual fetish clubs. Now this is probably no longer useful today (well, for LGB folks, the T still has a way to go and the outing of Bruce-now-Caitlyn Jenner has created a net-benefit for the T community), so is not directly applicable to this case, but the OP was correct in their premise that forceable outing was used by the LGBT lobby and that many of the LGBT rights may not be so far advanced today if it weren't for them.
