Is it in fast food? Specifically, is it at McDonalds?

da
What difference does it make if it's fast food or not if you're still being paid the same wage?

I just made a similar post upthread about why it makes a difference, but I'll paraphrase.

McD's/other fast food is unskilled entry level no experience required labour. Among wage slavery it's about the lowest of low tier. That means that in general adults over 25 who are doing it are immigrant workers; locals tend to already have had enough experience to move up to other tiers of wage slavery.

Sure, other employers can still fuck you over and offer you a shit wage (e.g. when tipping is involved, especially the way the US labour economy works), but you usually need some form of experience to get those other jobs.

That's important, because that's where the bulk of the assumption lies.

It doesn't matter if it's entry level or experienced work if it offers the exact same wage. A person who makes $8/hr working full time as a nurse's aid isn't magically richer than a person who makes $8/hr working full time at McDonald's just because you have to have more credentials to be a nurse's aid than to flip burgers. THEY'RE STILL MAKING THE EXACT SAME AMOUNT OF MONEY. They're still both below the poverty line. They're still both probably working multiple jobs.

You're being a fucking idiot.

I really don't care about the rest of this conversation except in a popcorn-munching spectator kind of way, but I'm curious to know how being a skilled low-wage worker vs. an unskilled low-wage worker makes any difference as far as internet access and such. If the wages are the same, then income is the same. Waitstaff and line cooks have to spend just as much time on their feet and get just as tired. I doubt they're less likely to have kids to support or more likely to have a partner with a better income. Requiring a bit more experience and intelligence to do the job doesn't automatically translate to higher pay or an all-around better lifestyle.
