Re: PARANOID

(Anonymous) 2015-07-18 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
*rubs hands together* This is me! Paranoid!Anon here, let me describe my thought processes, when I'm at Red Alert.

Let me begin by stating, the most important thing to do is assess every situation you walk into, but DO NOT LET PEOPLE KNOW you are assessing it or that you have sussed them out -- if you have sussed them out that is -- but always try to get the lay of the land, so to speak, at the very earliest opportunity.

EXAMPLE PROVIDED

1. Walk into room.
2. How many people are in room.
3. Are any of these people upset/angry/look out of place. Go to 3a.
3a. Is this person upset/angry/out of place at another person? Proceed.
3b. Is this person upset/angry/out of place with no one else around? FLEE.
4. How many exits in the room. Where are the exits in the room.
5. Where are the hidden exits in the room. i.e., down a hallway, not
necessarily out of the house, but might get you out of the house via
different route/window/etc.
6. Deploy use of exits as necessary. See 6a/b.
6a. Deploy bathroom excuse as temporary exit. (Go to the bathroom.)
6b. Deploy bathroom excuse as permanent exit. (GTFO.)
7. Is there anyone I know here? Go to 7 a/b
7a. Is this a neutral person? Proceed.
7b. Is this a person who has the opposite of my best interests at heart?
See 6a/b.
8. Is this person who is talking to me telling the truth, or trying to sell
me a bill of goods/take me for a mark/generally deceive me?
9. Does his/her story/sentence/reaction seem plausible?
10. Does this person want something from me? See 10a/b
10a. Is it something I can give them? See 10b.
10b. Is it something I want to give them? If yes, proceed. If no, GTFO.

GENERAL ADVICE ON HOW TO BE PARANOID

Don't talk to strangers, don't share personal information that can be used against you, online or off, try to go by your gut feeling about people, always be on Red Alert if you're immediately drawn in/charmed by someone, they could 99 times out of 100 be trying to scam you/be not a good person, always pay extra for an unlisted/unpublished phone number, always use auto rejection lists, burner phones are the devil and a scam and totally traceable, what else, always use a PO Box, uhhh basic advice, don't leave a footprint, wherever you go. Always use cash if you can, debit is (I believe) now untraceable with the chip-and-pin thing, though it used to be as traceable as a credit card. Never use a credit card if you don't absolutely have to, unless you want to be found, by whoever it is that's looking for you. Always always always ALWAYS drill down into whatever settings you can find, and disable location settings/GPS everywhere. (Android is the worst offender for this.) Gmail uses untraceable IPs though new addresses are harder to set up then they used to be. Don't use social media. Just don't.

Expect that everything you post on the Internet or say on your phone is being read/listened to, by somebody somewhere in a dark basement, getting paid six figures a year by some alphabet agency.

That's a good start, I would say! Any questions?
