I mean, if it's not your cup of tea, then it's not your cup of tea. But I'm always surprised when people are so against a trope like this because the can't with the premise. I like lots of kinds of tropes. I like soulmate AUs. But they're not the only ones I like. It's not like when I write a soulmate AU that I buy into the idea of being destined for one person only. It's just a "what-if" of that.

And it's fun!

What if there was someone out there just for you? Isn't the kind of a neat idea? To know that when you feel alone, at least one other person in the universe is kind of guaranteed to like you? Like, if I've just had the shittiest day ever; I'd like to drown myself in fluffy goodness. Why not have a little wish-fulfillment today? I know it's not realistic; that the appeal. On a better day, I may like seeing the soulmate trope utterly deconstructed; that's fascinating too!

I don't get people who are so troubled by the very idea of having someone you're destined for that they can't turn their brain off to enjoy that kind of "what-if" story. But, like I said, if it's not your cup of tea...

And I can't 'get' people who want me to "turn my brain off". It's not going to happen - I want fan activity to make me think/tolerate me thinking.

Then do that. But don't whine about it to the people who don't want to do that. No one cares.
