Ehhh... I think a few users here have a tendency to look for things to react to. Their automatic assumption is go for the worst black/white interpretation possible rather than assume anyone has the capability of considering extraneous variables.

On the other hand, I'm pretty sure some of this is intention wank stirring from a few people who are really dedicated to trolling.

The problem is, OP is correct that they do go for really personal attacks and try to smear people consistently even after a thread is finished. Some people here have a whole lot of time on their hands and a huge hate-on.

This, this. When I look at the replies to secrets, I see so many of them jumping to the worst possible conclusions. People do that to my secrets all the time, so I try to be charitable with other peoples' secrets. I mean, they're called fandom SECRETS for a reason... these are things people are vaguely ashamed of, right? Things they can't say out loud? Shouldn't we treat that with a little sensitivity?

I fully admit, though, that in RL I tend to be rather blunt and come off as aggressive/argumentative even when I'm not really trying to attack anyone, it's just my default register. I think that comes off in my secrets.

I think you're exactly right. People can be very unfair, and while you're also right that some are probably trolls, there's also many who aren't - they just get tetchy. You can't express opinions or ask questions sometimes without being called out. And I've definitely noticed it happening a lot in the summer - which may sound crazy, but I feel like summer draws nastier comments.
