I think that the way to combat a desire is NOT with another desire (including the desire not to do the thing you want to do - contradictory desires are not helpful). That only leads to insanity.

The way to combat a desire is with action - with doing some definite thing, or having some definite form of mental discipline, or something of that nature. So in other words, go out and get lost in doing something else.
