I haven't read them, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they were better written than Harry Potter. I liked Harry Potter too, but I think everyone probably knows by now that a large reason the books are popular is because it they have simple writing and are easy to read.

Why does "simple" equal "bad"?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-19 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
It doesn't. I actually prefer when the book is simple and doesn't bog itself down too much.
Sometimes it just feels like authors are trying to be pretentious, but I get a lot more enjoyment out of something that is easy to get through.

Do you think HP is pretentious? Honest question. I never got that vibe from it at all.

It doesn't. But a lot of times, "better writing" means "more complex writing" to my ears.

out of curiosity, why?

Try taking a leaf out of J.K. Rowlings book because I have no idea what you are trying to say here.

I think HP's writing evolved a lot towards the end - starting with the 4th book. The 6th book is my least favourite, but I think it's also the best written of the bunch.

Dude. Simple writing doesn't explain why kid's (and adults) get totally swept up in Harry Potter. I don't read HP but that's such a ridiculous assertion to make.

*kids

Yes it does? The world of the books made them interesting, and the simple writing made them accessible to everyone. Done and done.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-20 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Sure. I was never contesting the fact that the simple writing of the books make them accessible, but whatever
