Re: Series that had potential, but...
(Anonymous) 2015-07-19 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)Complexity of the characters is one, I feel like sometimes the series had trouble reconciling it's dark nature with it's light/fun nature and who was supposed to be a villain and who was supposed to be a hero. Like I appreciate characters like Logan who are complex but at the same time it felt like in later seasons/the movie they tried to whitewash what a dick he was so he could be the main love interest.
Dick is also one who frustrated me, I love the actor but I don't think they gave enough fallout from everything with Cassidy. They just ignored Dick for episodes at a time where I really wanted to see more of how fucked up his family was (I can appreciate that he's the "ignore it type" but I feel like they whitewashed his story too since he was also a bit of a villain in the early seasons.)
I also think Veronica didn't get called out enough and didn't grow enough for my liking. I like her as a character but she's also unnecessarily mean and catty, even to people who are innocent bystanders or actual victims of crimes. She also remained selfish and self serving throughout the whole series and into the movie.
I don't know, I loved the series but I think I just wanted MORE out of it. It maybe was something that needed to be on cable to really fully execute some of the ideas that were being thrown out.
