This might be a controversial choice, but Dellyn Goblinslayer from Goblins: Life Through Their Eyes. The man is so deluded on so many levels. He institutionalizes murder and torture of "monsters," keeps an intelligent creature as his slave and plaything, will happily let innocent people die to prove the threat of "monsters," and thinks he's the greatest hero who ever lived. He's completely defeated in a very satisfying way, comes back for a second helping, gets defeated even harder, and still has an impact on the story because of all the suffering and trauma he left behind.

Huh. That's actually a damn good choice.

It's a shame Goblins takes forever to update, because every time I catch up I'm really enjoying the story, but there's so much to keep track off that it's easy to forget who was doing what and why.

It's one of those comics that are better as an archive binge.
