I'm more than a little confused by your analogy, OP. Do you just mean you don't understand sports, so fic involving sports is not particularly enjoyable?

This is how I feel about Remember the Titans. I couldn't care less about football, but I fucking love that movie and I will watch it every time it's shown on television (it just had a lot of great characters/actors and an awesome soundtrack).

Oh. I guess I do like sport stuff. Maybe not the sports bits, but at least when I'm more interested in the dynamic of team itself, that camaraderie and bonding thing. Actually no. Yeah sports movies are not really an easy draw for me either, I don't like watching sports in general (I only like playing sports and that's it) so entertainment that is heavily based around it has to be really good to make me forget what I'm watching.

Whenever sports stars guest star it is always completely lost on me as well. I don't even know who big name sports personalities are.

I sort of get you. Sports have never been my hobby, they've never been something I had any real interest in, but at the same time...I like sports movies/anime/manga. I rarely go out of my way to check them out, but when it happens I enjoy them. A lot. (The Mighty Ducks, The Sandlot, Kuroko no Basuke, Haikyuu!!)

In the end it all boils down to the characters and the relationships between the teammates; that sense of family and friendship that sports media tends to be about. I love it.

It can make me care about the game itself in a way I wouldn't otherwise.
