Re: Things you wish fanfic authors would/wouldn't do

Very much so. I have yet to get even a couple of pages into a present tense fic. It is incredibly distracting, possibly because I don't read the current crop of YA authors whom I am assured virtually all write in such style for ease of inserting tension without having to work at it. Frankly from what I've seen with present tense fanfics, it seems most of the authors want to use it to write a script-fic or a stage play, without actually writing one of those.

Your experience with present tense fics is very different from mine. I've seen all different styles of fic done in present tense, from artsy navel-gazing ficlets to novel-length behemoths, some simplistic and some richly detailed and some flowery. I can't say that I've ever seen a fic, in present tense or otherwise, that reads as if the author would rather be writing a script.

But sadly it has never been seen in a readable one.

I thought you were trying to have a discussion, but I guess you're just trying to stir shit.

You are the one trying to tell me my opinion is wrong, I'm sorry you don't feel that I am capitulating enough to you.
