Re: "FS is extremely skewed liberal" - Agree or disagree?

"free speech" is certainly protected.

And it's not just cake. It's photographers, it's caterers, it's florists, it's actual venues.

My question is, why would you want someone to bake a cake for you who was opposed to your marriage? Wouldn't you be afraid they'd spit in it or something?

Okay, I want you to understand this. We are not agreeing with you because we're ignoring you. We just think you are too dumb to debate with now. Okay, good.

Well, that didn't take long.

free speech is protected from government oppression. this is neither difficult nor complicated. free speech and its concepts have nothing to do with what a business chooses to do.

... yes, and all of those people have to do their jobs in-line with discrimination laws. a restaurant owner can't put a "no blacks" sign on his building, a scientist hiring an assistant can't say "no women, they're bad at math," and a bakery/florist/caterer/whomever cannot refuse a customer based on his or her sexual orientation.

that question is not relevant. I could ask the same if someone sued a restaurant with a "no blacks" sign, why would you want to eat at a restaurant that's run by a racist? the answer is: you don't, but what they're doing is illegal and they should suffer the consequences for violating the law.

Okay, so the gay print shop owner is engaged in discriminating against a customer for their religious viewpoint, and discrimination laws also apply to religion. You can't refuse to hire someone because they're a Jew, for example, or have a sign saying "no Muslims allowed."

So I guess WBC can sue that print shop owner.

a gay print shop owner would not be saying no to the customer because of their religion, but because of the message. so no. if it could be found that he routinely turns away all christian customers who want signs made for their church, that might be one thing. refusing to print signs with slurs or whatever other hateful speech on them is quite another, and falls under the right to refuse service in the "no shirt/no shoes" does.
