18. Now people need therapy for not being attracted to the same people you are? Fuck that attitude. Fandom is the last place I'd expect to find the condescending "If I think he's ugly, everyone has to" bullshit I get everywhere else. And I don't even watch that particular show or have familiarity with that particular actor, I just don't like people whose minds automatically go from "she likes someone I'm not into" to "there must be something wrong with her."

I'm pretty sure the secret is because he's a misanthropic asshole, not because of his physical appearance.

And I have no idea why you'd think fandom is more mature than anywhere else... heh.

The secret doesn't make that clear, though, so I'm left wondering what the secret-maker really meant. And even if that's what s/he did mean, does liking a misanthropic character necessarily warrant "therapy"? Telling someone to get their head examined is a pretty strong statement.

And I didn't think it would be more mature per se, I've just not gotten attacked for anything in a fandom community yet, and was foolish enough to think that was universal.

Well, I mean, it's House. That's essentially his entire gimmick. And it's not just liking the character as a character, but wanting to sleep with/be in a relationship with him, I'm thinking.

Of course, since it's not my secret, I may be wrong (and I would hit it!).
