This. I think the show's trying to make a very good, very realistic point. How many shitty parents think they're shitty at parenting? Very few, I'll bet. BF's mother is like this, she'd swear up and down that she loves her kids and would do anything for them but in practice, she's a selfish narcissist who always puts herself first. Yet she'd be deeply insulted if anyone implied she wasn't Mother of the Year.
