And yes, they really are. Seriously. Like, you'd be surprised at how many people are going, "OMG FAIL ITZ A MONSTAR MOVEE AND U DON EVN SEE DA MONSTAR WTF TIHS IZ NOTHIN LEIK GODZILLA". Or something along those lines.

...um. Need I point out the obvious IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE GODZILLA YOU MORONS statement here, or shall we let it hang in the air until somebody walks facefirst into it?

Actually, JJ Abrams is really good at scaring you spitless with what you don't see, so less really is more here. (Plus, the monster didn't really scare me, but the parasites? Yeah. Didn't sleep. Saw enough of them kthx. o_o;)

I've heard everything from 'you dont see the monster, so the movie sucks!' to proclamations that if you like Cloverfield youre a f-ing lemming for 'buying into the marketing hype'.

So I suppose watching a film where a random scientist pops up halfway thru and explains everything to your dumb ass and you thinking its amazing makes you a freaking genius then. >_<


And oh dear god, those spider things scared the living SHIT out of me. That entire subway scene I was pushing back in my chair, covering my face with my hands and making strange noises. It doesnt help that I've had nightmares of spiders falling on me from my ceiling long before seeing Cloverfield....so that didnt help. :(

And agreed on JJ being able to scare you with things off camera. Your imagination can conjure up worse things than what can be shown on screen. *shudder*

Yea, this wasn't a monster movie, this was a monster ATTACK movie. BIG difference.

I so enjoyed the lack of omnipotence that you get with monster movies. Is it so weird that I like not having everything explained to me and must therefore draw my own conclusions? Seriously.

Seriously, I don't care where the monster came from, all I care about is that it leveled New York and it killed Hud. Poor Hud. I totally woulda been your bff. (I'd rather come up with my own backstory anyway - I finally checked out that "viral marketing" stuff, and it's...pretty lame. Apparently the monster's origin ties into a Japanese soft drink...or something...whatever.)

But about people complaining about not seeing the monster...did we watch the same movie? Cause I saw PLENTY of the monster. You see a good deal of it like, thirty minutes into the movie. And then near the end - BAM! You're staring right into it's big ugly mug! So uh, yeah, I don't understand that complaint. :/
