I watched this show recently. (I know, a bit late, right?)
That's not the secret. The secret is...
My OTP is the main het ship, and that legitimately weirds me out.
When's the last time that happened? God, when I was 9 and into Tobias/Rachel???

[Image is the title screen of the show LOST. Jack and Kate are circled in red, with a couple of hearts drawn around them and things like 'cute', 'wow' and 'OTP' written around them.]

s!b this is silly in so many ways.
I do ship other things, but none compare...

[Various other images are clumsily pasted in below, featuring, from left to right: Ben and Locke; Michael, Jin and Sun; Kate and Sun; Kate and Claire; Jack, Kate and Sayid; Sayid and {insert literally anyone here}]

Shit, OP, guess you gotta give up your hipster cred.

... damn, I forgot how gorgeous Sayid is. MUST REWATCH NOW.

Yes, Sayid mmm.

Good actor too.

I'm just here for Tobias/Rachel

But yeah, I feel you on shipping the main canon het ship. Clarke/Bellamy from the 100 is the main het canon-ish ship and I felt so weird about shipping it.

Also here for the Animorphs ship. ^_^

Though other canon het ships I've had in the past were Buffy/Angel, Ross/Rachel and T.K/Kari.

As far as canon main het ships go, Jate was a pretty good one. I was so against the idea of them when I started watching, but it grew on me a lot every season, they had some moving scenes and this sense of ~destiny that weirdly didn't feel as forced and cliched as I thought it would. Honestly they were a good ship in the end.

(also YES to seeing Bocke here. that more than makes up for the lack of creepiness in Jate. you have great taste OP)

Whoa, Kate/Sun? That's a rare pair. (Any fic recs would be welcomed!)

Also, Sayid is awesome! :D

Is that Sun/Husband Guy/Walt's Dad OT3? Because Sun/HG was already awesome for me, but I could totally dig adding W'sD to that.

Also, yeah, that show is a ship heaven even for canon ships. Though for the longest time I couldn't stand Jack or Kate's canon romance drama with anyone. I didn't even ship Kate with anyone iirc, but suddenly the last season happens and I got really excited about her with Claire. As for Jack, I ship him with happiness, inner peace, and tiny number of other dudes?

Funny, I had two het ships from this, but it was Sawyer/Juliet, and Penny/Desmond. Adored both couples.

I intensely disliked Jack and Kate, as a couple and individually. But I was never IN the fandom, so I wasn't aware they were the main ship. In some way, it doesn't surprise me, because they're so obviously 'coupley' onscreen, but OTOH it surprises me because fandom usually seems to go for the less obvious couples.

Anyway, enjoy the show!

Okay, honest question: what fandoms are you in?

I see popular ships generally fall into two categories: stuff that's canon or pseudo-canon, and stuff that contains two hot guys (or, less often, two hot people of any gender).

Digging all the not Jate ships! Probably not what you hoped to hear.

The main het ship actually was jack/kate/sawyer and I despised it with a passion. I much prefered the many other canon ships, even the old interracial couple was more shippy worthy for me than watching Kate bounce from jack to sawyer according to the mood of the week.

That said, Sawyer/Kate were IT for the coward lame writers if you listen to the commentaries they said he was her choice and the reason why she and jack break up later is because she loves sawyer but wants to be with jack because she thinks he's more 'right' and the good guy (which he isn't) who can make her a respectable woman. It was a bit like the triangle in Gone With The Wind, the cheaper version of it. They set it up, in the last seasons, that when sawyer and kate were separated Juliet was Sawyer's rebound to get over Kate while Jack was Kate's rebound. Then it seemed Kate finally got over it all and could have her own story outside of the triangle but they dragged her in it all over again.
I always disliked Jack's abusive side and his constant reminders that he was the one who saved her and thus she must love him. I disliked the fact that the writers made it seam he was better than her and she, the criminal, had to accept sh*t because she is inferior, she was more a 'fan' of him than in love with him.
Then suddenly in the end after she had ignored Jack for a whole season she remembers he's the love of her life? So lame.
The writers wrote a last minute finale centered around Jack where they contraddict themselves about everything. When you notice the way the women are written, that show has many female characters but the writers are quite mysogynistic.
