Maybe? Maybe not. I wouldn't say that the show has really ended up in the same place as the books anyway, since it's at a weird position where there some character arcs are caught up to where the books left off, some character arcs are behind where the books left off, and other character arcs are far past where the books left off.

It's probably also partly due to the fact that he's in the process of writing a novel now so he more or less can't have the exact same thing happen in the exact same way in the books or he's breaking his contract.

I feel like with at least some characters it's going to do what s lot of manga-based animes do, just create meandering subplots that aren't likely to contradict the overall plot, until the next book is released and they have something to catch up to.

lol you're probably right on the money with that one.

except... that the show is muuuch more concise than the books at this point. the whole dorne-storyline in the books is fucking awful and boring as shit. I'd always heard that people were looking forward to it and were disappointed at how it was handled in the show but... really? So far it's just as pointless. 'specially quentyn the useless.
the last two novels stink of attempts to shake off writer's block, and I'm just really not interested in reading GRRMs therapy outlet.
