SUCH A GOOD EPISODE

Also, in fairness, The Thing is literally a whole long line of stories all the way from H.P. Lovecraft on - so it's not so much plagiarism of that one movie, but participating in a long tradition of asking "what if something Not Natural was at the pole??"

I fucking LOVE anything where you can't trust the world or people around you. So that episode was right up my alley. :D

Also worth pointing out that John Carpenter as a director was pretty obviously strongly influenced by Lovecraft - being that this is the guy who also made In The Mouth of Madness and Prince of Darkness, which are pretty Lovecraftian. Also interesting that Carpenter as a director was hugely influenced by Howard Hawks, but that his version of The Thing doesn't follow the 1950s version that Hawks produced and might have directed and goes back to the original short story instead.

Man, John Carpenter is so awesome. He should have directed an X-Files episode (also Hell Money should totally have been a Big Trouble In Little China crossover) (my fan obsessions, let me tell you about them)
