The DC Metro is amazing. You should really be worried about taking the subway in new York.

Thankfully, we will only be on the subway in NYC twice! From the train station to Times Square and then back later that day. :D

Are you getting in at Penn Station? I assume so since you're probably taking Amtrak from DC? Yeah, that's only about 10 blocks from Times Square, you'll be fine. Usually I'd just walk that distance :P

(Though I can't guarantee that you won't encounter urine and giant rats. Which are much less common on the DC Metro...)

Yeah, my sister and I were just looking at that!

Are you from the DC area? If so, how expensive are taxis? We just realized that in order to take our day trip into NYC, we will need to get at Union Station by like...6. And the Metro doesn't open until 7 on weekends! So we are in a bit of a conundrum.

I'm from New York actually, and I've only taken taxis in DC a couple of times in my life, the last being a couple of years ago. I don't remember it being expensive, given I was a poor student at the time, but of course that would depend on the distance you're traveling.

The bigger problem was trying to get one to come in to my place and pick me up in the morning. Maybe you could look up a company and call one in if you're leaving early? I've started using Uber a lot to circumvent this problem when I'm in other cities.
