Dream kinda freaking me out

(Anonymous) 2015-07-24 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
I dreamed last night that I slept with my friend's husband and had his kids. This is the second time I've had a dream like that, and there is enough "do not want" in that concept to keep me cringing for the rest of my life, for various reasons. I'm scared it means something somehow, but I don't know what it could mean, other than "you secretly want to have your friend's husband's kids" which...sounds about as appealing to me as eating unsanded wood covered in broken glass and infested with bugs and poison ivy.

Why is this happening and how do I stop it (or at least not feel so freaked out by it)? I know it's just a ridiculous dream but an irrational part of me worries that if my subconscious shows it, I must somehow want it. Ugh.

No. Sometimes dreams are pure fear, with no desire. That's one thing Sigmund Freud got completely wrong. You dream it because it scares and annoys you so much, not because you want it at all.

Dreams often show us things we don't want. After all, I have no reason to go back to school, much less show up late for a test I didn't prep for, only to find that I'm not wearing pants.

Well perhaps it might be fun to not wear pants, it doesn't mean I'm going to do it.

Your dream is not some psychic warning, so get that out of your head.

Dreams are just strange combinations of things you experience/talk about/hear about/etc throughout the day or week. You can take certain things as a sign if you want, it's your choice.

However, if you want to know if it does mean something, just think about the people in the dream, and about the stuff going on in your life.

What is your relationship with these people? How do you honestly feel about them?
Has anything occurred during this week that has made you discuss or hear about the topics in the dream? For example, did someone either known or unknown to you commit adultery? Did you attend a children's birthday party? Did you have a random discussion about doing something you totally would not do in real life?

Looking up dream symbols can help too. Rarely do dreams have literal meanings. I don't think dreaming about being a homewrecker makes you one in real life. It's said that adultery in dreams might point to something else weighing on your conscience, or could even suggest you're bored with something.
