I'm not familiar with... Dr. Who, right? But by regenerate do you mean reincarnate, or like, regenerate your body? I think it'd be awesome to grow back chipped teeth and such, or even regrow limbs and the lot.

It's a Doctor Who thing, yeah

How it works in the series is, whenever a Time Lord suffers some kind of fatal injury and dies, they regenerate into a new body (conveniently played by a new actor) and keep on living that way, even though it's the same person

Timelords regenerate into a new body. And personality wise some things change and others stay the same. So you are sort of a new person sort of the same person.

It's more or less reincarnation without the whole messy 'being reborn' part. Essentially, Time Lords spontaneously generate a new adult body to inhabit as they die, transformed out of the old one. Personality changes can happen with the shift, but all memories and knowledge are retained and they usually know exactly what just happened, barring something going very wrong mid-process (the main character has had a couple of 'bad' regenerations where he suffered emotional instability and/or memory loss immediately post-regeneration).

It only regenerates fatal damage, though, and it does so by completely transforming and regenerating the entire body. Wouldn't be much good for chipped teeth unless you really wanted to kill yourself (and use up a regeneration) for the sake of it :(

But it's not just fatal damage - Romana is able to change her form at will and does so for the sake of it.
