Whatever happened to YKINMK anyway

That was the old days. The pendulum is now swinging in the opposite direction. It'll be interesting to see how far it goes, how long it lasts, and what happens when it starts inevitably reversing course again.

it actually wasn't the "old days," if anything the pendulum is just swinging back to where it used to be. YKINMK is a very recent fandom sentiment, before that all kinks were up for being ridiculed, criticized, and laughed at. the only difference now is the nature of blogging platforms make call-out posts easier to find and spread.

I'm thinking all the way back to the fanzine days, where there was definitely a cornucopia of kinks, if not the actual terminology of YKINMK. But yes, the immediacy of communication on the Internet and the current call-out culture has definitely raised the volume of the arguments.
