Same. I actually really like the show-- it's not Holmes perfected by any means, but I like the portrayals, and despite the writing getting unbearably smug at times (a Moffat staple), I find it really entertaining. I even ship John and Sherlock quite a bit!

But hoooooo-ho-holy shit the TJLC crowd is a level of batshit that put me so far off that I had to completely detach from the fandom in order to enjoy the show still. They're such mean people (lord help you if you ship John or Sherlock with anyone else, for any reason-- or even ship John/Sherlock the wrong way), and I mean...I like meta. I do! But to call the meta they come up with "stretching" is...putting it extremely lightly.

It's just such a toxic echo chamber, I had to get out of it. I'm much happier on this side of it, even still being a fan of the show.

Have you seen the latest "drink code" one? Supposedly coffee represents one thing and tea another and alcohol something else, and milk yet another thing . . . I mean, I'm just a rubbernecker, I have no idea how one can be so far down the rabbit hole that it actually makes sense (and I'm a huge fan and I know the show well enough to see where the giant holes are, and they are legion).

ayrt

Oh god, no, I hadn't seen that.

Like...it's not that I can't appreciate creativity, but it's never "this is a fun idea I came up with, wouldn't it be funny", it's "THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT THEY INTENDED." And I just want to be like...guys. Moffat and Gatiss aren't half as clever as you're giving them credit for. It really is just some entertaining fluff that doesn't mean anything.

As a Johnlock shipper, I was fine with TJLC as a fun little fandom 'game' up until this new drinking code metas kept being reblogged and now I'm like; "O...kay..." *step back*
