Re: ugh, parents
(Anonymous) 2015-07-25 04:52 am (UTC)(link)i have had pretty serious depression in the past, and it just frustrates me to see my mother doing the exact same thinking as i used to do. it's tiring, you know?
Re: ugh, parents
(Anonymous) 2015-07-25 06:12 am (UTC)(link)Yeah, I hear you. My mom suffered from undiagnosed depression throughout my childhood into my teens and she went through a religious phase too*, stopped buying soda because it was "strong drink" (caffeine) and didn't want me going to school dances/functions (just because? I still have no idea what was up with that, it was all very "Footloose" in that she suddenly thought dancing and socializing was sinful somehow).
I mean, it IS pretty obvious that we've got more coverage of the awful shit that happens everywhere, thanks to technology, but not everyone is aware of that. Just do the best you can, hang in there, and get your breaks when you can. I'm rooting for you!
*Among others; she went through a health food phase as well and we had to eat our weight in wheat germ for a year or so. She also went through a "all modern music comes out of Satan's butthole" phase, during which I had to smuggle in all my music, which is pretty penny-ante, but still, the point is, my mom was mentally ill and not fully in command of her faculties so I had to come up with ways to deal with that.
