I love me some woobie Loki fic too anon! No shame.

Nothing wrong with that. Just don't act like woobie Loki is canon, and you're fine.

yeah this. I think the problem people have with woobie!Loki is that it's such a common (or at least persistent?) interpretation of his canon character.

read whatever fics make you happy, OP!

Yup, enjoy what you like in fic, that's what it's there for, but the insistence of certain fic traits being canon is what bugs me.

Seeing how Loki has become the poster boy for the term woobifying, I doubt there's that many people left who genuinely believes it to be canon (always see hordes of people going "ugh, stupid people woobifying villains because they're hot etc.).

Woobie Loki is not really my cup of tea but eh...you like what you like. However, given his character I can actually see why it would appeal, even though I don't seek it out unless I get a *really* good rec.

Woobie!Loki is fine! I mean, why not? He cries a lot in the movies for one thing. He's a misunderstood black ship in his family for another. Idk, it seams logical to me. Slave fic is also fine. I read slavefic with my faves. It seems it's a dying trend though, or maybe I was in different fandoms back then and now I'm in this fandoms with coffeeshops and colledge AUs mostly.

Misunderstood black sheep? Really? I didn't get that at all. What I got was someone who was actually treated equally to his brother and just as much a part of the family, who was more like his mother than his father, and who had a persecution complex that had no relation to reality.

I'm totally up for wobble!Loki in fiction, but it has no relation to actual canon.

I had this feeling. No other magicians in Asgard, Loki hanging out with his brother's friend group not having his own. It's a stretch, but not much of a stretch.

DA

I don't think that being a magician was all that weird in Asgard. I mean, it's heavily implied that Frigga was the one who taught Loki magic, and she was a very popular queen.

da

Yeah, I don't think being magic user in general was weird although I think it was a lot more common for women and somewhat odd for men to do it (I'm preeeeeeetty sure I saw this mentioned somewhere in canon, whether in the comics or movies, but it's entirely possible that I'm thinking of a fanfic and just confusing it with canon. That happens sometimes)

[personal profile] solticisekf 2015-07-27 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Or it was in North Mythology.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-27 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
ayrt

You're probably thinking of seiðr, which was a form of sorcery in Norse religion practiced mainly by women. It was taboo for men to practice it, because it was seen as unmanly. (Though it was Odin rather than Loki who was associated with it in mythology.) I don't follow comic books, but I don't think there's any evidence that the magic practiced in the comics/in the MCU has the same taboos attached to it, or even that seiðr actually exists there. I think the Asgardian sorcerers in the MCU just use general purpose magic.

I have seen fics playing with the concept of male magic users being weird or even taboo in Asgard, though.

Yeah, I think you're right. It seems like something I picked up while reading a fanfic a while back and I must have gotten it mixed up with canon somewhere along the way because I thought it sounded plausible enough. Dammit fanfic, you got me again!

Good point!

(Anonymous) 2015-07-27 01:25 am (UTC)(link)

I'd love some woobie!Loki fic, too, OP. Don't worry about it.
