Do people hate him that much?

The plagiarism case (not that I know exactly what really went on there) sounded pretty terrible, if true. I don't know, though.

I think he's been mocked a lot in that way young actors sometimes are, and has had to learn to put up with it. I think...he has some really good points that make him adorable to his fans, and some big, big faults he's had to work on.

I don't hate him and his acting output, from what I've seen, is generally fine to really good. But the multiple lifting of sentences from other people's work in his public writing with no accreditation, including in at least one apology for the most blatant plagiarism case I know of involving him (lifting dialogue, plot, and visuals wholesale from comics artist Daniel Clowes for a short film that was getting positive press on festival circuits for months with no reference to Clowes in credits or verbally whatsoever before Clowes' publisher found out) is strongly off-putting for me wanting to see any of his personal projects.
