This. Well, mostly this. The author still has a lot to do to get me to suspend my disbelief, but others have much much lower standards so will accept almost any old tosh.

I still have standards (e.g., the immediate "I love you" thing always sends me packing, regardless whether I like the pairing or not), but yeah, they are definitely lower for romance in fanfic.

completely unapologetic tbh, if you're not a flagrantly incompetent writer in a technical sense, and if you're willing to trowel on the fluff and romance, i will actually legitimately read any old shit
