I feel like the one major exception is BBT? And I feel like in a way that kind of proves the rule, in two senses. First, because the things that seemed to drive fandom weren't really the half-hour-comedy elements of the thing. Second, because it's a completely different style of comedy from the kind of sitcom that people in fandom mostly want to get into.

That's a good exception! I'd forgotten about BBT. I haven't watched the show enough or looked closely enough at the fandom to come up with any whys and wherefores, but it is a sitcom with a fandom, that's true.

Maybe that's my problem, that I spent too much time with BBT and I was spoiled without realizing it. (I only ever do 1-2 fandoms at a time, and took a huge break for grad school.)
