And see this I have a problem with. I'm 100% against male circumcision, but comparing it to FGM pisses me off. It is not remotely close to being the same thing at all.

Why? They are both mutilating a child's genitals for no reason.

Now, you can say that FGM is more extreme. But, did you know there is a form of FMG that just involves stabbing the clitoris with a needle? From WHO "Type IV comprises a large variety of practices that does not remove tissue from the genitals."

So, Type IV FGM is actually less extreme than circumcision.

More on TYPE IV "Type IV — All other harmful procedures to the female genitalia for non-medical purposes, for example: pricking, piercing, incising, scraping and cauterization."

...I mean in the same comment I compared it to piercing children's ears as well, and that's much further from being the same thing.

I'm aware of the differences between the two issues. However both are the non-consensual mutilation of a child's body not for medical reasons and I am never okay with that.
That was my point and I apologise if I wasn't clear.

Okay, that makes sense. I guess I'm just reacting because I'm so used to men bringing up circumcision every time FGM is discussed (even when the more violent forms are being discussed). And there are sexism issues involved with FGM that aren't there with male circumcision.

But yes, both are non-consensual mutilation and I'm against them both (and piercing a child's ear without their permission too).
