Shippers with strange ideas tend to be the most vocal. Like SPN RPS fans who believe that their headcanons=reality.

Yes, this. And some of the most vocal fans of any pairing also tend to be among the nastiest, like the Steve/Sam shippers who run around calling other fans racist for not shipping it. Unfortunately, that can create backlash, and people who aren't behaving badly often get unfairly caught by it. :(

Christ are some people in the Steve/Sam fandom ridiculous. I SHIP Steve/Sam (along with Steve/Peggy and Steve/Bucky) and I was called racist for a post I made on Sharon Carter. Because I thought it might make an interesting story if she was Hydra, or a double agent/spy for Nick Fury (à la Severus Snape for Dumbledore).

Got called a Grant Ward apologist too (when I don't even know who he even IS besides that he's vaguely involved in Agents of Shield).

ayrt

I'm sorry that happened to you. I got called racist for not shipping Steve and Sam romantically, although I like their friendship a lot and I think they are important to each other.

How does speculating on how Sharon being HYDRA or being a double agent for Nick Fury might be an interesting story lead to the conclusion that someone is racist? Is it because Sharon may be a canon love interest for Steve? (I'm kinda hoping not because it skeeves me out, and I didn't like the way TFA handled Peggy as a love interest. I don't trust them to handle Sharon well, either, and her spying on him doesn't lead me to like that relationship.) For what it's worth, I think that would be a very interesting story, too.

In Agents of SHIELD, it's canon that Bobbi and Jemma infiltrated HYDRA as double agents. Why not Sharon, as well? Goodness knows they need all the info they can get.

Some people really are overinvested.

I feel you.

I got called racist for not shipping Barry and Iris on the Flash. I ship her with Eddie instead and Barry with no one so ?????????????
