I totally understand, OP. I'm also autistic and have a single autistic headcanon fic posted. After the kind of messages I got from posting that single story, I'm probably never going to post a fic with autism in it, in any context, ever again. One person even accused me of 'fetishizing retardation'... I can't even begin to explain how that made me feel.

+1 This guy gets it.

OP

Oh hon, I'm sorry people are so rude. :( You don't deserve that. Taking pride in being autistic in a world that wants to demonize it is brave. Go for it. Post the fic. Rude comments honestly just reflect on the people who leave them because they probably think they Know All About Autism and nothing deviates from that.

Even the most famous people in the world have haters. Haters gonna hate.

I'm sure your fic is awesome. :)

Curiously enough, you don't sound like OP.

"Taking pride in being autistic?" Leaving targets open for trolls. Expecting troll replies to flood this fake bait in 3, 2, 1...

People take pride in being gay without thinking they're the best human being since sliced bread. I don't think it's a bad thing to take pride in one's autism as long as it doesn't turn into "I'm better than you because I'm autistic" which is where the problem comes in. (Because there are people who try to spin it like that. I am not one of them.)

The autistic headcanons I have don't make the characters any less capable or change them onscreen.

Take the Twelfth Doctor for example. He's got a lot of classrooms to clean in the Caretaker episode. I headcanon him as loving the smell of chalk. So he probably had a field day taking a whiff of the chalk on the shelf while he cleaned up the chalkboards in every classroom. We don't see him sniffing the chalk onscreen, but that doesn't mean he never did. I like to think he did. Someone else will think he didn't. We're both right.

I headcanon one of Drax's stims being he shines his knives, and he was doing exactly that during the dancing Baby Groot scene in GotG. He shines his knives so he can fixate on how the light plays on them. Someone else would tell me he's just shining his knife and not stimming. They would be right.

One of my headcanon'ed Groot stims is he chews his leaves and vines. He does that onscreen. (Technically he EATS that leaf, but LOL.) Someone else might say he was hungry. They would be correct.

That doesn't make Groot, Drax or the Doctor *better* than the other characters. But the people who have an issue with it come to my inbox to say "fuck you for blahblah they aren't retarded!" when I never go to someone's inbox and go "OMG how dare you not see Twelve as autistic!"

I'm not trying to come off as snotty, so I don't know what to say if someone takes it that way. I'm just stating that I don't see myself as superior to anyone, not even the trolls who might hammer me for speaking up to say yes I'm proud to be 'neuroweird' and don't see anything wrong with myself.

Everything after the first paragraph here is extraneous. Suggest dropping it next time you talk on this matter. I've noticed that that is something all autistic writers seem to share, an inability to stop writing after they've made their point.
