These are my favourite children's lit authors:
- Roald Dahl
- Diana Wynne Jones
- L. Frank Baum (His non-Oz children's books are severely underrated and definitely worth checking out.)
- Cornelia Funke
- Bruce Coville
- L.M. Montgomery (Anne of Green Gables is her most famous work, but she also wrote other things! All of them are good.)
- Natalie Jane Prior
- Zilpha Keatley Snyder
- Lloyd Alexander (If you liked Narnia, there's a good chance you'll like his Prydain series.)
- Zizou Corder
- Eva Ibbotson
- Tamora Pierce
- Gail Carson Levine
- Jessica Day George

(Those last three technically write YA, but I'm listing them anyway since the line between YA and children's literature can be blurry.)
