Re: Come on, you'll love it, if you just give it another try
I've not read Crossgen myself, but there's some big names on it apparently. And yes, it's very 90s, but that's not necessarily a bad thing!
In my case, it's Marathon. One of the few exclusive claims to fame for the Mac in the 1990s, on its surface it's just another Doom clone (complete with somewhat abstract level design) but even 10 minutes of play reveals hints of a startling philosophical and literary depth that only gets deeper into the second and third games.
The problem is, it's an old FPS -- and it uses save points, rather than quick-saving (though you can certainly mod quicksaving in!) As such it's rather fiddly and difficult, especially as Aleph One (the source port for playing it on modern systems of any OS) has a couple quality of life issues. So I'm very hesitant to recommend it to people. At least it's legally free.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-30 03:11 am (UTC)(link)I just quickly read the wiki on your game, and it does sound very interesting! I haven't played a ton of games but the ones I have played, the stories and the characters are always my favorite parts. And worldbuilding. I love great worldbuilding! (Sadly, I am completely technologically challenged. I don't think I've had one game ever that didn't freeze/crash my computer or just not work. But I do love older games.)

First time I ever joined a LAN party, too. Man, so much nostalgia right now.
