With all due respect, sometimes the authors aren't the best judge of how plausible their work is. I've seen it before with different issues. Because the story, characters and universe are in the writer's head, they're seeing a far more complete picture than what might be coming across in the writing. Which is not to say that it wouldn't resonate and seem plausible to some people, but then, just about everything seems plausible to someone, somewhere. If you're getting a lot of pushback about your interpretation, then I think it's a clear sign that a significant number of your readers aren't buying what you're trying to sell.
