Preparing meat so that it's tasty is often faster and easier when you don't have many (or any) cooking skills. Making beans and lentils that don't taste like cardboard sludge is a little trickier, and it takes more ingredients and longer cooking time if you're using the cheapest option, i.e. dried beans/lentils.

AYRT Sure, I agree. That's not so much a money issue though, unless poverty is making you very stressed/tired. Anyway I didn't mean to sound judgey, I was just surprised since meat is so expensive and she used to be fine not eating it.
