Why? It worked last time. That is literally the reason that Godzilla has a Western fanbase.

We are decades away from that now. This is the fandom of millenials. Spectacle isn't going to foster obsession like, say, Cranston and Watanabe interacting and generating sexual tension will. If Godzilla could be a real character and have other kaiju characters to interact with on a deeper level then maaaaaaybe but that didn't happen in this first film either.
