I didn't know George had a memoir out already? I know that's the in thing to do for celebrities, and I totally support it, but honestly he wrote it too soon if he published it before he came out as gay (and became a Facebook icon). And you can't really rehash the same stuff by publishing a second one... maybe he can release a new, revised edition. He actually does have a really fascinating story but I'd like to see the "full" edition.

After Shatner's book Star Trek Memories came out in the 90s, multiple costars of his came out with their own books to... well, counter it. Takei's was one of them, and an illuminating read. He talks about his childhood in the internment camp, the struggles of being an Asian actor in the 60s who didn't want to play stereotypes roles, and the amount of prep he put into that shirtless scene in "The Naked Time".

Yeah, I know a little bit about George's childhood and all, and think any minority actor, especially in that time, is going to have something really interesting to say. Still, I think there's just so much more to his story now, it'd be weird reading the version that felt... incomplete?

But an awesome documentary about him came out in 2014 so the later material about his life and struggles with coming out and life with Brad is well covered.

Despite the fact that it's obviously missing a huge element of his life, "To The Stars" is one of the most interesting celebrity memoirs I've read, and deserves to be read by anyone interested in 20th C American history for the section on his childhood and the internment camps alone.

I'd love a volume two, though.

'To the Stars' came out sometime in the middle '90s.
