The picture has made me curious about this show/movie.

I think it is a really good show. The first couple of episodes took a bit to get everything set up, but once it did, it has had some amazing and powerful plotlines. And I love that the female characters are so strong. It also doesn't hurt that it has a fairly diverse cast. Not that I know if any of those are selling points to you. :D

No. No. These are all very good selling points. Thanks for the warning on the slow start up though, I can be very quick to judge on the first few episodes (dislike watching in the hope things get better urgh)

AYRT

The slow start up wasn't like Agents of Shield or anything. It just had a lot of world building and character introduction to do before it could really flesh out the stories and the interactions. At least in my opinion.

Didn't watch shields.

Welp that's alright. As long as it doesn't stay slow. Thanks Anons (and op) - will check it out next week maybe, with cautious viewing.

It's a show called "The 100." You might like it? It's a pretty fun watch.

Yeah think I'm gonna check it out.

It seems like a really bad and boring science fiction show, so I haven't watched it, but it's definitely big in f/f circles, so take that as you will.

I do like my f/f circles.

But bad... It depends. Cheesy and campy b grade is fun, but boring and predictable is not.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-31 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
I'm certainly open to the possibility

but the specific impressions that I've got are (a) it's the kind of show that's moving through basically melodramatic plotlines at a fairly slow pace (b) it's the kind of show that's glacially revealing and progressing through ideas that are fairly rote and obvious to anyone familiar with science fiction as a genre (c) I had a third thing... oh, the third thing is that it reminded me of Revolution, which was really fucking terrible, but that's completely irrational and meaningless really and I'm not even going to try to justify it

It's a million times better than Revolution, I can tell you that. The 100 is melodramatic and ridiculous and predicable in some ways, but it certainly doesn't fuck around and overall it's fairly entertaining once you get through the first few episodes.

Gathering opinions now because fuck did Revolution make me mad with how predictable it was. I can take bad acting or predictable but I can't take both. Such a let down, reassured to hear it's better at least but I think it'd be hard pressed to do worse than revolution.

Woah wait back up. How is it similar to revolution? Cause revolution was shit. I have such strong feelings about how fucking shit revolution was and it's very important I know HOW it was similar.

( like that secret someone made about dan wells partials bring what revolution could have been and that got me into partials and anon was so right. )

This was me...sorry DW times out or something...

(Anonymous) 2015-07-31 12:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait...Revolution was more like a bad Partials? I never watched it because it looked pretty bad, but I always thought it was a rip-off of S.M. Stirling's "change" novels.

No partials is good! Very enjoyable! Like it's not ground breaking writing but I enjoyed it, it has nice twists, some wish moments and just a nice enjoyable read.

There was a secret where anon wished partials got a TV show instead of revolution and because I'm so disappointed in revolutions (those adds at 2am looked great) I read partials instead and really enjoyed it!

Idk which came first, just that they both float in the "about 30 years after the world suddenly stopped working" genre

that was me being irrational (like I said - not trying to mislead anyone), it was just a vibe I got, and it feels like a similar setup dramatically and it looked like a similar aesthetic

but there's no reason to expect it to have the same problems Revolution did, this is completely and totally irrational

[personal profile] caerbannog 2015-07-31 12:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh that's okay then. Man even now I'm still so fucking pissed over revolution so I can understand why you'd be wary of a revolution vibe!

I love how much you hate Revolution because man did I hate it too. It's been a while so I don't remember my exact issues, but my hate was probably as strong as yours.

H. A. T. E.

I waited MONTHS for it to come out, I was so excited for a scifi postapoc tv show and the tv adds they were running were really good! I was actually tracking when it came out.

Then I watched the fucking premier and it was awful. At first I was like, okay it's just a premier and sure the acting is fucking shit but maybe they need to warm up. I'm completely okay with bad science but this was bad bad science like how stupid do you think the audience is? Some bunk is okay but the majority of people in the world KNOW how electricity works so if you set up your 1 rule for your little scifi postapoc set in living memory, DONT FUCKING BREAK IT IN THE PREMIER.
Then? THEN? SO FUCKING PREDICTABLE. Like predictable to the nth degree. Everytime I saw something, I thought of the lease exciting, most cliche story option they could take and they fucking TOOK IT. And instead of showing, EVERYTHING was telling. That dude? Become a love interest in the fucking premier wtf happened to build up wtf.

HATE.
