What's you work commute like?

[personal profile] caerbannog 2015-07-30 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I take public transport for about an hour. It goes bus (10 mins) then train (30 mins) then because we have this horrible time wasting city loop where I want the last station and there's no wifi in it, I get off early and catch a tram (15 mins) then walk (5mins).

Going home is the reverse, minus the tram, and takes about 45 mins.

20 minute walk to the train. 15 minute train ride. 5 minute walk to the office. It's really not that bad - I've had far worst in the past and I could probably cut the time by like 15 minutes if I would get my goddamn bike fixed so I could bike to the train station.

Going home is the same, except there's more people.

I usually walk (26 minutes) or bike (about 10 minutes). If I'm on overnights or there's drastic weather (super hot like right now, crazy cold, major storm) I'll drive (about 3-5 minutes).

for both voluntary positions, walking. Granted, one along a canal.

I drive for 13 miles each way past the scene of one of the worst pre-9/11 atrocities, then over a sweet little bridge, two gorgeous lakes, a cute little rural road, a nice hill dotted with sheep and cattle, then a castle, and through some traffic lights before hunting around for a parking space in a speed-hump ridden car park. Mostly it is a sweet commute, especially since I don't need to go in rush hour so the road is quiet. One thing does rather let it down though. The traffic lights are off timing and create more hold ups than they solve.

That sounds really lovely and scenic! what country is that? Do you have a fave out of those?

I like the bridge. It has traffic light control on it because it is so old and narrow, so I am almost certainly guaranteed a few minutes to contemplate the river and enjoy the scenery.

One of those things is not like the other, one of these things just doesn't belong.

I work at home so my commute is walking downstairs. :)

But for my prior jobs, they were both really close. I think one was a 10 minute drive and the other was 15-20 minutes.

Walk for half an hour, bus for ~45 minutes.
But only for another week. Then it'll just be a 20 minute walk on a really pretty river path =]

Twenty to thirty minutes by bus/bus and train. Downside is it's literally three changes, and means I live way too close to work. Pretty good timewise though. Especially given when I was back in training (last time it was a different commute) I was looking at two hours.

Most days, walking, takes ~15-20 minutes. When I work at the further away of my 2 other locations, it's walk ~5 minutes, bus for 15 minutes, trolley for ~20 minutes, and walk for ~10. The closer but still not easily walkable (when the weather's nice I'll do it ocassionally, but it's a ~3 1/2 hour round trip) location is a 10 minute walk and a 20 minute bus ride. Once in awhile I'll take shifts further away; I think the longest commute I had was ~2 hours by bus each way, with transfers and walking adding time in.

It's about 20 minutes by car. 99% of the time it's easy-peasy. Then 1% of the time there are terrible storms and the roads flood, and it's a bitch.

I drive seven minutes. Or I bike thirty.

25 minutes driving on a main artery, but usually in the opposite direction as the rest of the traffic so congestion is not that big a deal. There's one utterly evil intersection, though, where they've stretched the left turn across three lights and a little delay there can kill my time.

To work I have to a minute walk to the bus, then a fifteen minute drive, and then five minutes of walking again.

To uni I can either walk for twenty-five minutes or get there by bus + the underground in about ten to fifteen minutes.

My last two jobs were less than 15 minutes walk.

It was a beautiful thing.

I mean, the walk was shit and there are three brothels on one street alone and some very creepy tunnels and for some reason a goat with a very direct glare, but not having to take public transport was so beautiful.

I drive. I would take the bus if a) there were a stop closer to my apartment and b) I didn't get off work literally in the middle of the night (11:30 on paper, usually sometime between 11:30 and midnight that I actually clock out).

I did, however, take the bus to Gen Con today to avoid parking costs. It was surprisingly easy and saved me a lot of money. Drove less than 10 mins to get to the stop and parked there (it's in a shopping center).

Public transit is a wonderful thing when you can get it to work. It's too bad that my city has a very underdeveloped public transit system, even considering that it's a smaller city. Still, it was awesome that it worked today! I'll do it again tomorrow if I don't end up carpooling with my sister.

Five minute drive through woods and then through a bunch of rich-people vacation homes. Next winter it'll probably be a fifteen-minute walk and then ten minutes on a gondola

I drive 20 minutes because I live in the suburbs. It's a pretty easy commute and it's nice because I past a bunch of things on my way home, so I usually take longer to get home (groceries, bank, library, errands) but I come home stress free which is nice.

Walk 20 minutes, then bus for about another 20. Add anywhere from 5-10 minutes for bus delays.

I could walk much less, but it would require me changing buses and also waiting around on one of the less kosher streets in the city, so I'll take the extra exercise.

Bikan uphill. Then not so uphill. Then two genuine hills. Then a little less hill. Finally, a gentle slope down and I have arrived.

GLORIOUS. It is a 6 minute drive. After years of living in the DC area, I feel like I have earned this.
