I think all of you'd find the answers to all your questions either by Googling or exploring twitter on your own, but you seem kind of anxious, so...

Only your tweets appear on your timeline by default, though people can also click on "Tweets and replies" if they want to see your tweets + the replies you make to people who tweet you. When you tweet other people, it doesn't show up in their main timeline (unless they reply to you and it shows up in their tweets and replies), but they'll see it under "Notifications", just like you can see who's tweeted at you via your "Notifications". However, keep in mind that nothing except direct messages are private, so tweet accordingly.
