I don't mind a bit of switching, but I do have a strong preference for who tops/bottoms in my OTP. I also like a little bit of D/s between them, with the bottom also being the sub.

I do feel a little bit bad about that, because I know that bottoming is not inherently a more submissive role, and I don't want to perpetuate the idea that it is. However, I like what I like, and I don't see my OTP as some kind of symbolic representation of All Gay/Bisexual Men Everywhere. They're just two fictional characters, who I like, and who I like imagining having sex together.

I also wish fandom were more receptive to people discussing what it is they like about a character in a certain role/position. I think it could be really interesting to hear what other people have to say - how similar or different their ideas are to mine.

For example, while bottoming is not inherently a submissive role, in my opinion it does tend to be a more vulnerable one. A person who is bottoming can be a complete BAMF, for sure, but while another person is sticking their cock/a phallic object in one's anus/vag, there tends to be a certain degree of vulnerability in it (especially if the bottom character is someone who doesn't have a lot of sexual experience). I think the bottom also tends to be a bit more dependent on the top's sexual performance for their pleasure. Again, this is about anatomy, not submissiveness. A bottom is every bit as capable of bringing themself sexual pleasure, it's just the mechanics of penetrative sex which, IMO, can be a bit trickier for many bottoms.

In the case of my OTP, the bottom is someone who is highly independent and who shows no vulnerability; they boss everyone around and do everything themself without relying on anyone. Which is why I like them as a bottom, because there's something really interesting (and hot) about such a character having this one area in which they are a bit vulnerable to another person and rely on that person to be considerate of their pleasure.

However, I totally respect other people's right to ship however they want, and someone who ships my bottom character as a top character probably has reasons for doing so that are just as good as mine.
